e-notebook Style Quality Control Inspection System

In October this year (2013) Techno Fresh have started to introduce an e-notebook style Quality Control inspection system, this was first trialled in our Portsmouth office and is now being introduced to the other company offices such as Dover and Rotterdam and is expected to be fully operational by the end of this month. The system uses a standard database however produces an excel report that is popular with our customers which is then printed in pdf, with photos then being attached in a separate pdf file which is also popular with our customers as they only have to open one file and not separate photos.

This system will allow even faster reporting times, aiming for a 12 hour turnaround from inspection to full report with a maximum of 24 hours, as all the offices are now equipped with high speed broadband connections allowing our customers to receive a report and as many as 50 high quality photos in our very popular reporting format.

Techno Fresh operations are moving on the 19th July.

Salmonella food poisoning from paan leaves The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a notification to UK consumers about the potential risk of Salmonella food poisoning from paan leaves, also known as betel leaves.
The FSA has published advice on its website

The HSE have posted Potential changes to MRLs under EC Regulation 396/2005 for further information please see the link below.

Since September 2008 all statutory MRLs have been set on an EC-wide basis under Regulation 396/2005. Proposals to set, modify or delete MRLs in Regulation 396/2005 are under regular consideration. These proposals are based on EFSA Opinions and are subject to votes in the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (Residues section). Proposals for lowered MRLs are notified to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) following the first indicative vote to allow third countries to raise any points of difficulty. Once all concerns have been addressed a formal vote is taken by the Committee, after which the proposal is adopted provided the necessary majority of member states is secured and following scrutiny by the European Parliament and Council.

Changes to the EU banana regulations (PEACH)

From 1st August this year the operational changes to the EU banana regulations come into force, known as PEACH or “Procedure for Electronic Application for Certificates from the Horticultural Marketing Inspectorate”.

This will mean if you do not have “Exempted Banana Trader Status” your consignment of bananas may be selected for inspection by the DEFRA inspectors causing possible delay, as the consignment will not be realised until the product has been inspected and released by them.

However if you apply for “Exempted Banana Trader Status” your product will not be put on hold and you will be able to collect and deliver your cargo to your requirements. To achieve “Exempted Banana Trader Status” you will have to show that you keep records of quality inspections within the port of arrival and that your inspectors are trained and able to conduct inspections to EEC requirements.

If you have your own quality inspectors within the port of arrival then this is not an issue however if you do not, Techno Fresh can offer you an independent arrival report on your consignments. As an ISO9001 accredited company Techno Fresh complies with all the requirements to allow you to achieve “Exempted Banana Trader Status” such as record keeping, calibration of equipment and training of inspectors.

Contact us with you requirements for a cost effective quotation

Please see the attached form HCG20a/BAN Application for Exempted Banana Trader Status, this should be completed and sent to the local defra inspector at the port of arrival, if you do not know who this is contact us and we will give you the required information.

The collection includes over 3,500 named Apple, Pear, Plum, Cherry, Bush fruit, Vine and Cob Nut cultivars. “The European Union is withdrawing from the market, and temporarily banning the import of, certain types of seeds from Egypt after Egyptian fenugreek seeds were linked to the E. coli outbreaks (O104 strain) in northern Germany and Bordeaux, France. The decision follows a European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) report, published earlier today, establishing a link between the outbreaks and seeds from Egypt”.
